Visiting Auckland Zoo
Since the 1990s, Auckland Zoo has focused on providing its animals with the most
natural habitats possible, as well as on breeding and conservation. The primates
area, sea lion and penguin shores, and the Pridelands section best exemplify
this approach. You will meet here such exotic animal as red panda!
To catch a glimpse of New Zealand flora and fauna, you must spend time
in the New Zealand Aviary, where you walk among the birds, and the Kiwi and
Tuatara Nocturnal House, which are at opposite ends of the zoo.
Auckland Zoo has committed itself to improving the living quarters of
New Zealand's largest collection of native and exotic animal species.
Now you feel as though you are walking with the rare white rhinos on the
Pridelands, swinging with the monkeys through the McDonald's Rainforest and
almost swimming with the inhabitants of Hippo River. There are picnic
facilities and a cafГ© in the zoo. The zoo has many outreach and educational programmes
for both New Zealand's guests and local groups and is available for corporate and
private functions.
Auckland Zoo is involved in a wide range of conservation programmes for
native species, including kiwi, tuatara, brown teal, whio, kaka, kokako and
Archey's frog.
